All About Anakin's Lightsabers
As the lightsabers of the Chosen One, Anakin Skywalker’s lightsabers have gained enormous popularity among Star Wars fans everywhere. Anakin constructs two lightsabers during his time as a Jedi, with his second one being the most well-known. However, Anakin’s lightsabers are also as interesting as they are popular, boasting an extensive backstory.

Anakin’s First Lightsaber

The first lightsaber Anakin creates has a blue blade, chunky controls, and thick ridges on its hilt. He constructs it while on Ilum as a Jedi Padawan.

Following the construction of his first lightsaber, Anakin returns to Coruscant to train with the saber. In one particular session, Anakin alters the appearance of a Jedi training droid to mimic Darth Maul and his double-bladed lightsaber. Using his skills, Anakin emerges victorious.

Geonosis Droid Factory

During the events just prior to the start of the Clone Wars, Anakin, along with Padme, infiltrate Poggle the Lesser's droid factory on Geonosis.

While journeying through the droid factory, Anakin’s lightsaber is damaged by a mechanical blade. However, he does not notice this until he attempts to ignite his lightsaber, which only produces sparks.

Anakin’s Second Lightsaber

Anakin eventually builds a replacement for his first lightsaber, which becomes his most well-known saber. This is also the lightsaber he uses during the Clone Wars.

Anakin’s second lightsaber incorporates many elements of his first. It has a solid casing and a heavily shrouded blade emitter. The lightsaber also includes a ridged hand grip, so a solid grip on the hilt can be maintained.

Battle of Teth and Aftermath

Anakin wields his second lightsaber during the Battle of Teth and its aftermath, using it in a rematch with Asajj Ventress during the Republic's attempt to rescue Jabba’s child, Rotta.

Anakin, along with his Padawan, Ahsoka, manage to escape Teth and journey with Rotta to Tatooine. After landing, Anakin sends Ahsoka to take Rotta to Jabba, using himself as a decoy for Count Dooku. Anakin then confronts Dooku, and the two duel in a rematch until Anakin breaks off to assist Ahsoka. Afterwards, Rotta is given back to Jabba, and he makes a treaty with the Republic.

Taken by Hondo Ohnaka

Pursuing Count Dooku, Anakin and Obi-Wan Kenobi track him down to a cave on Vanqor. However, Dooku causes a cave in, separating Anakin from Obi-Wan. Dooku then takes Anakin’s dropped lightsaber.

However, Hondo Ohnaka and his men, who also happen to be on the planet, see Dooku and take him in. They take possession of both Dooku’s and Anakin’s lightsabers. After taking Dooku to Florrum, Hondo attempts to turn him over to the Republic for a price. Anakin and Obi-Wan are sent to confirm that he really has Dooku, however they also find themselves held for a price. Eventually, Anakin is able to retrieve his lightsaber and free himself and Obi-Wan. Dooku, however, escapes from the planet.

Battle of Coruscant

During the Battle of Coruscant, Anakin and Obi-Wan infiltrate the command ship that Count Dooku is using to hold Chancellor Palpatine.

Anakin and Obi-Wan confront Dooku, and begin to duel with him. During the battle, Anakin uses his lightsaber to defeat Dooku and free Chancellor Palpatine. The three then manage to land the command ship on Coruscant’s surface.

Carried by Darth Vader

The lightsaber is used by Anakin briefly after being proclaimed Darth Vader by Palpatine. Vader uses it during the Siege of the Jedi Temple, and during his duel with Obi-Wan, his former mentor and friend. After Obi-Wan bests his former apprentice, he takes his lightsaber with him to Tatooine, and buries it alongside his own to avoid using them.

Carried by Luke

Anakin's lightsaber remains with Obi-Wan, until he has the opportunity to give it to Luke Skywalker, Anakin's son.

Obi-Wan presents Luke with his father's lightsaber, telling him that his father wanted him to have it when he was old enough, but that his uncle, Owen Lars, wouldn't allow it because he thought that Luke would follow in his father's footsteps. Luke trains with the lightsaber during his voyage to Alderaan onboard the Millennium Falcon. Luke also uses the lightsaber to duel with Darth Vader on Bespin, however he is bested by him and loses the lightsaber, which falls into the depths of Cloud City. Luke eventually constructs his own lightsaber to replace it.

Kept by Maz Kanata

The lightsaber is eventually salvaged from the depths of Cloud City, and ends up in the possession of Maz Kanata. However, she is very secretive about how she got it. When Rey, Finn, BB-8, and Han Solo visit Takodana, the lightsaber calls out to Rey, however she is scared of it at first. Finn takes it for safekeeping, and eventually, during a duel with Kylo Ren, Rey wields it.

Carried by Rey

When Kylo Ren attempts to summon the lightsaber to him after defeating Finn, Rey is able to take it instead. With the lightsaber, Rey is able to best Kylo and escape with Finn.

After escaping, Rey tracks down Luke Skywalker to Ahch-To, and attempts to give him the lightsaber, but he refuses it. Rey then uses it to train and hone her skills while on the planet. After leaving Ahch-To, Rey confronts Kylo Ren, who takes the lightsaber. Kylo brings her to see Snoke, the leader of the First Order. However, in a turn of events, Kylo uses it to defeat Snoke. Rey retrieves the lightsaber and together with Kylo, defeats Snoke’s guards. However, afterwards, Kylo and Rey fight over the lightsaber, both using the force to try and gain control over it. This causes it to break, and Rey escapes with the pieces. Eventually, however, Rey is able to repair the lightsaber. Rey then uses it to train further. Kylo and Rey fight again for the last time on the ocean moon of Endor. Rey then travels to Exegol, to confront the reborn Emperor Palpatine. She then uses the lightsabers of Anakin and Leia to redirect his force lightning towards him, ultimately defeating him.

Buried on Tatooine

After defeating Emperor Palpatine and the Final Order, Rey constructs her own yellow-bladed lightsaber. She then buries the lightsabers of Anakin and Leia on Tatooine at the Lars homestead.
